The winter snowstorms are quickly receding, which means spring is right around the corner. Spring sports are also getting underway at ACGC. The track and field teams have already begun practice, while the golf and soccer teams will begin their practices on March 12th.
The girls track and field team returns several West Central Activities Conference top-five athletes. Junior Savana Fuller and senior Mady Smith each posted the fourth best times in the conference in the 100 meter dash and 100 meter hurdles respectively. Fuller also ran the second fastest 200 meter time in the conference last season, with a time of 26.84.
Sophomores Olivia Laabs and Kate Crawford anchor the medium distances for the Chargers. Laabs ran the second fastest time in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.39. Crawford ran the third fastest time in the 800 meters, an event dominated by cross-country rival Devyn Kemble of Panorama. Crawford, who finished fifth in the 3000 at state as a freshman last year, leads the way for the Chargers in the long-distance races, posting the fastest times in the conference by a long margin in both the 1500 and 3000 meter runs. Junior Lauryn Embleton and senior Emma Swanson also posted top-5 times in the conference last season.
Tomorrow we’ll look at returning runners and throwers for the boys.
