Just over a month ago, Iowa high school football teams, including the Greene County Rams, found out their 2018-19 district assignments. Tomorrow, the Iowa High School Athletic Association is expected to post full schedules on their website, include the non-district opponents. Earlier this week, an accidental leak had the assignments on the IHSAA website, but they have since been taken down.
Greene County head football coach Mitch Moore told Raccoon Valley Radio in late January he was confident the Cowbell Series with Perry would continue, but now as a non-district game because Perry remains a Class 3A program while Greene County has dropped to 2A. Once the full schedule is released, Raccoon Valley Radio and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will have the comments of the second year head coach. Greene County was 1-8 each of the past two seasons in 3A, but the coach and his players fully expect the win column to improve starting this August.
When the schedules are made public, not only will observers want to check the schedule of their team and their opponents, but also the schedules of their opponents’ opponents, because all three elements will be used in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) used for the first time to determine playoff qualifiers that do not win their district. All teams placing first or tying for first in every district will automatically qualify for the playoffs.
