Greene County School Board 2_14The Greene County School Board met in special session Wednesday night.

The Board approved a special election to issue $21,480,000 in general obligation school bonds to build a new high school and regional career academy. The Board received a petition to put the measure on a ballot for April 3rd. The petition had 219 signatures and were required to get at least 194 signatures, or 25-percent of the votes from the last election.

According to a report from Piper Jaffray, the tax rate of $2.70 per $1,000 property valuation of the taxable value of a $100,000 assessed value of residential property would result in the property owner paying about $137 per year toward the bond.

School Board member Steve Karber said a community group called “Our Kids, Our Future Greene County” will be spearheading meetings and information about the bond. The group is led by Dr. Keith Van Beek and Bill and Peg Raney.
