Eight Class 1A wrestlers from the Raccoon Valley Radio area took to the mats at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Thursday night. Panorama’s Trevor Carey at 182 lbs. was the only was to win a first round match, but six others won first round consolation matches to advance to day two of the State Tournament

Carey was a 13-5 major decision winner. He was one of five Panthers to qualify for State, and the other four all lost in the first round, but each won consolation matches  and are still in the tournament. Danny Nordqvist (126) lost 13-2 then won 12-9.  Wyatt Appleseth (132) lost 18-5 before winning 4-0. Gunnar Grunted (170) lost 2-1, then won 3-0, and Dalton Holmes (195) lost a 2-1 overtime tie-breaker before winning in sudden victory 3-1.

Dalton Arnold (220) fro Coon Rapids-Bayard dropped a 5-2 opening round decision, then won by fall in 41 seconds. Alex Wells (285) of West Central Valley lost by fall in 3;07, then won by fall in 4:40.

Seth Danker (106) of ACGC lost both his Thursday night matches and his tournament is over. Danker lost 15-3 in the first round, then was pinned in :50 in the consolation round
