This Saturday, the Perry Public Library invites families in the area to stop in and take part in “Take Your Child to the Library Day.”

Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel says the event is a national program, though in most places it’s held the first Saturday in February. However, since Perry annually has the BRR Ride the first weekend and the Chocolate Walk the second, they decided to bump their observance back to the third Saturday in February. Kestel says the focus of the event is to promote the development of good reading habits in childhood, while also encouraging families to make regular library visits.

“It is to encourage libraries to make our libraries a welcome place that families will come and be library users. And so the children come, they get to get their faces painted, they receive a balloon animal, they receive a free book from the library. And then I’ve also got some different organizations and businesses in Perry that pertain to young families. And they’ll have information out, you know that the families can pick up. But it’s a fun time to be had by all, and we want people to come to the library and find out what we have available. Especially those young families, we’ll help them any way we can!”

The organizations at the event will also have some things to give away to attendees. There is no cost to attend “Take Your Child to the Library Day,” and it will run this Saturday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. For more information, stop into the library or give them a call at 515-465-3569.
