Today is big for high school sports involving teams from Greene County. Three Greene County sports and one from Paton-Churdan are in action either today or tonight.
Greene County junior Brock Wuebker wrestles in Harlan today in a Class 2A District tournament. If he finishes first or second at 170 lbs., he’ll advance to the Feb. 15-17 State Tournament inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Junior Clint Dennhardt qualified for the District as well, but is sidelined with a skin disease known as mat herpes. The ailment shut down the entire high school wrestling program for two weeks in January. ADM, Winterset, and Woodward-Granger are other are teams at Harlan today. Wrestling begins at 12 p.m.
Also today, the Greene County ninth, JV, and varsity boys’ basketball teams play at non-conference Winterset. The triple header starts at 11 a.m. with the freshmen, then JV, then varsity around 2 p.m. It’s the fourth time this season the teams have tried to play after the first three were weathered out.
Tonight, it’s Greene County girls’ basketball vs. East Sac County in Sac City at the Elementary school at 7 p.m. for a Class 3A Region 8 quarterfinal. Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams are 5-15 and the ESC Raiders are 9-11. You can hear the action tonight on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Paton-Churdan and Ar-We-Va were weathered out Thursday night, so they’ll play their first round Class 1A Region 8 contest tonight in Westside at 7 p.m. Both teams are 9-11 on the season.
