In its second year as a whole-grade sharing entity, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School is still experiencing its share of firsts. The Fine Arts Department achieved one of those firsts Monday afternoon, as the school received its first-ever nomination to the Iowa High School Speech Association All-State Large Group Festival. The group mime entry received one of five “performing” nominations from the Southwest District for the festival at Iowa State University on February 17th. Twenty total entries were selected from the four districts.
Head Coach Kelsey Moran tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she was left speechless when she saw the nomination. Moran is extremely proud of her students and the effort and commitment they put forth. Six students participated in the event, including: Hunter Vasey, Kelbie See, Haeleigh Busse, Alexa Herbert, Jennel Hanson, and Sara Pauley. This is the first year all six have participated in group mime. This is the first year Herbert and Busse have participated in speech.
The entry titled, “Inside the Shh! Cool Library,” received a “I” rating from all three judges. Group mime was one of seven entries AC/GC sent to the state competition in Waukee last Saturday.
