Greene County voted in favor of a $25.5 million bond referendum for Iowa Central Community College Tuesday, which ultimately passed overall.
According to the Greene County Auditor’s office, of the 399 ballots cast, 243 voted “yes” for nearly 61-percent. The voter turnout was only 6.36-percent, with 6,272 registered voters in the county. The payment is equivalent to $12 per year for a home that is assessed at $100,000. For a farmer with 500 acres, and assessed value of $2,000 per acre, would pay an additional $100.12 in property taxes for the bond.
The measure passed by a 67-percent vote in the nine-county region for Iowa Central. The funds will be used to renovate and improve existing facilities in the region. Greene County’s votes are unofficial until the Board of Supervisors canvass the votes on Friday.
