Greene County SheriffA portion of Highway 30, between Jefferson and Grand Junction, is slowly starting to open back up to traffic following a three-vehicle collision.

The Greene County Sheriff’s office, Greene County Emergency Medical Services, Jefferson Fire Department and Grand Junction Fire and Rescue responded to the crash at 9:53am Monday on Highway 30 and S Avenue. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams told Raccoon Valley Radio a semi-tractor trailer was hauling hogs and ran a stop sign on S Avenue and struck a fuel tanker carrying 8,300-gallons of fuel. The wreck caused the fuel to start burning on the highway. Williams said the Greene County Hazmat team was used to control the burning gasoline. He added that the collision also caused a third pickup truck to get hit. Two drivers were taken to Greene County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and the third driver is uninjured.

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s road condition website reported that both lanes of traffic on Highway 30 have been opened back up to motorists.
