Multiple wrestlers will represent Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community schools in next weekend’s Class 2A District 4 tournament in Harlan. The Tiger wrestling team began their postseason run in the Class 2A District 7 tournament Saturday afternoon hosted by Winterset. The event featured wrestlers from Clarke (Osceola), Creston-OM, Greene County, Winterset, and Woodward-Granger with the top two wrestlers from each weight class advancing to next weekend’s district tournament in Harlan. ADM had three wrestlers win sectional champions and another advance to districts after a sudden victory in a true second-place match.
ADM juniors Andrew Flora (113) and Nolan Harsh (152) and sophomore Kaden Sutton (220) all stood atop the podium at Winterset as sectional champions. Flora pinned his way to first place, recording second-period pinfalls in the semifinals against Winterset’s Jake Porter (2:35) and the championship match versus Creston-OM’s Kaden Bolton (3:03). Harsh tallied a pair of first-period pinfalls to win his sectional bracket. His semifinal win came against Tyler Brown (0:48), and his championship triumph was over Woodward-Granger’s Austin Scharlau (1:12). Sutton wrestled all six minutes in his semifinal grapple against Clarke’s Samuel Zaragoza-Rosales, winning by an 8-0 major decision. Sutton won by technical fall against Woodward-Granger’s Dillon Fogarty (15-0 4:35).
Senior Leo Tauke (195) ensured one more week of his high school wrestling career with a true second place finish in the 195-pound bracket. Tauke’s journey to the district tournament started with a 10-4 decision victory in the quarterfinals against Creston-OM’s Dale Boyer. His only loss of the day came in the semifinal round against Woodward-Granger’s Cody Fisher by first period pinfall (1:30). Tauke responded with a first-period pinfall in the third-place match against Clarke’s Jason Smith (1:57). Tauke was granted a wrestleback match against Greene County’s Bryce Hoyle. The match ended in overtime with Tauke winning by sudden victory, 6-4. ADM’s four district qualifying wrestlers travel to Harlan Saturday for the Class 2A District 4 tournament. The top two wrestlers from each weight class qualify for the Class 2A State Wrestling tournament February 15-17 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
