The National Weather Service is predicting several inches of snowfall is possible today in Jefferson.
Police Chief Mark Clouse reminds everyone of the city’s snow ordinance. The ordinance goes into effect when there’s at least one-half-inch of snow. He says officers are pretty flexible compared to what the ordinance says they can do.
“During a snow emergency, according to the ordinance, we can start issuing citations immediately once there is a half-inch of snow on the ground and you are parked on the street. We do not do that here in Jefferson obviously. We wait and give the owner an opportunity to move their vehicle, but once a city crew plow goes around your vehicle, at that point we do issue a citation.”
Clouse adds that there is also a city ordinance to remove ice and snow from a property owner’s sidewalk and to not blow or push snow into the city street.
The National Weather Service is estimating anywhere from 2-5 inches of snowfall for Jefferson.
