South Hamilton (Jewell) was a 54-40 girls’ basketball winner on Tuesday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson over Greene County. The Hawks led 9-0 before the Rams scored and never trailed as they improved to 8-12 overall and 6-7 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams fell to 2-11 in the league and 5-13 overall. The action was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
SH made 18 of 46 shots from the floor and 16 of 31 free throws. They had just nine turnovers for the game and were led in scoring by senior Marla Grubb with 19 points. Junior Sydney Friest added 15.
The Rams had 14 points from senior Laurin Lyons and 12 by sophomore Izzy Bravard. Greene County made 16 of 51 shots from the floor and cashed in on six of nine foul shots. The Rams had 16 turnovers.
