Greene County High School students who qualified for this Saturday’s Iowa High School Speech Association Large Group State Contest are busy preparing for the competition.
Five events from Greene County will be showcased at the state contest at Waukee High School including: choral reading, ensemble acting, short film, radio news and group improvisation. Junior Arthur Bardole, who is the lone returning all-state qualifier in radio news, says he took the lead for radio news this year and wrote most of the script.
“I came up with the theme of ‘sibling rivalries.’ I thought, ‘Hey I could do it with my brother and then we could have the three Lamoureuxs in there, and that would actually be pretty funny.’ It was just a lot of fun writing it and then even more fun seeing all of it being put together because it’s actually pretty hilarious.”
For group improv, Jordan Davis, Natalie Payan and Morggan Zmolek all qualified and Davis talks about the importance of having the right people to make group improv a success.
“We know how we each think. For that, it’s very important because you need to be able to know each other enough to know which direction they are going to take. Improv isn’t random, you have a story you have to do.”
