This week is National Catholic Schools Week, and St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Perry is celebrating with special activities each day.
Principal Eddie Diaz says while the public may not be familiar with the weeklong celebration, the spirit of it should still be familiar. “It’s basically our homecoming week. Thousands of other schools around the country are celebrating it. It’s a time for us to celebrate our students, our family, our staff, and showcase a little bit about what we have to offer.”
The festivities started Saturday with a Children’s Mass, and continued yesterday with a sock drive for the local clothes closet. Today students will get to watch free movies at the Perry Grand Theater. Activities through the rest of the week include: making Valentine’s Day care packages for a military platoon tomorrow; discussing future professions on Thursday; and basketball and other games between the staff and students on Friday.
St. Pat’s students Lily Reilly, Delaney Platt, and Reagan Gerkins told Raccoon Valley Radio what they’re most looking forward to. Reilly said, “I’m most looking forward to the student-staff basketball game, because every year something new happens, and that’s really enjoyable.” Platt said, “I’m looking forward to making the Valentines for the soldiers, because I think it would warm their hearts to know that people are thinking of them.” Gerkins added, “I am pretty excited about the Valentines too, and on Friday the games that we’ll be playing, and we’ll be watching the movie on Tuesday at the Perry Theater.”
