The litigation levied against Dallas County regarding the bid process for the new law enforcement center has come to a resolution, with the judge ruling in the County’s favor.

Sheriff Chad Leonard told Raccoon Valley Radio, on Thursday the judge assigned to the civil case determined the County’s handling of the bid process was fair, despite claims by Urbandale contractors Ball Team Construction. Leonard was unsure if the Ball Team would appeal the judge’s ruling, but said as of now the project is back to full-speed ahead. The issue arose when the Board of Supervisors awarded bids for the construction of the facility to the individual low bidders. However, there were no individual bids for the structural steel work, so the package had to be rebid.

The Ball Team, which submitted a comprehensive bid of $17,234,750 for the entire project, alleged that was against the rules of the bid process. They asserted they were the only complete bid, and therefore the only choice. When the Supervisors went ahead and approved the individual bids for a total of $16,816,388, the Ball Team promised litigation. However, the Board held strong with maintaining they were acting in the County’s best interest, and the judge agreed with them.

Leonard said the litigation likely set the project’s timeline back a little bit, but he believes they’ll be able to catch up.
