The Greene County Gobblers of the the National Wild Turkey Federation are having their annual banquet on February 2nd.
Chapter Treasurer Fred Long says they will have a live auction, as well as a silent auction and several raffle opportunities. Plus there will be a drawing for a new item that was recently donated to the organization.
“We had an individual donate a brand new Stoeger P3000 pump shotgun to be given away to a youth member. Our youth program is called JAKES (Juveniles Acquiring Knowledge in Ethics and Sportsmanship) and it includes people from 7 to 17(-years-old). We can’t legally give a gun to someone that’s 17-years-old, so we require that the parent or guardian come and they will actually take possession of the gun.”
Live auction items include: various wildlife prints, lamps and other furniture items. Silent auction items include: clothing and hats, plus gift certificates to local businesses, along with tickets to the Iowa Barnstormers or the Iowa Wild, plus lots more. Long points out that there are nine rifles that will also be raffled off.
The event takes place at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 5:30pm, with a catered meal by Lidderdale Country Store to be served at 7pm. The live auction will follow around 8. Proceeds from the banquet will go to the state organization for land acquisition for public hunting. Tickets are $45 for an individual, which includes the meal and an annual membership. Tickets for a couple are $55 and a JAKES ticket is $10. Those who purchase tickets by January 29th will be included in a drawing for a Yeti Roadie cooler.
