The ACGC wrestling team attended the John J Harris Invitational in Corning on Saturday. Junior Blaine Beeler continues his impressive year, reaching the finals at the tournament.
After receiving a bye into the second round, Beeler (120) won his next three matches by pin fall over Chariton’s Trae Hall, Riverside’s Ethan Reicks, and Atlantic’s Steele McLaren. Beeler reached the final, where he lost by a 10-0 decision to Winterset’s Bryce Hatten. Beeler now improves to 35-8 on the season, and earned 24 of the team’s 33 points from the weekend.
Easton Benson, Zach Fees, Gabe Rowley, Ben Kingery, and Spencer Grove also competed this weekend. Benson (126) received a bye and won his second round match by a 17-11 decision over Southwest Iowa’s Colton Hauschild. However, Creston-Orient-Macksburg’s Kolby Hulett ended Benson’s quest for the podium after defeating the junior by a 4-0 decision.
The Chargers scored 33 total points and finished in 16th place out of 23 teams. The squad will hit the mats at Woodbine for a Triangular against Tri-Center and the host Tigers.
