After not wrestling since Dec. 16, the Greene County varsity wrestlers were back at it last week and had a good deal of success. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team went 2-1 in three dual meets in Alleman on Thursday night, then wrestled in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament on Saturday at Story City and finished in second place. The Rams had been shut down the first half of January due to a skin disease.

PCM (Monroe) won the title with 223.5 points and six champions. Greene County had 165.5 and no champions. The Rams were closely followed by Gilbert at 164.5 and North Polk 158. Roland-Story had 121 with Saydel (Des Moines) at 107.5, South Hamilton (Jewell) 70, and Nevada 63.

Finishing second for Greene County were freshman Brady Stauffer (120), senior Cayden Gerdes (132), junior Brock Wuebker (170), junior Bryce Hoyle (195), and junior Joe Anderson (285). Sophomore Will Hansen (138) and junior Clint Dennhardt (182) both were third.

Next up for the Rams is Thursday night action in Huxley vs. Raccoon River Activities Conference members Ballard and Perry at 5:30 p.m.
