Elks Hoop ShootThe Jefferson Elks Lodge invites the public to the District Hoop Shoot Contest tomorrow.

It will be held at the Greene County Middle School gym. All of the winners from the local contests are invited to participate. In the event that the winners can’t attend, then the second place kids can try to advance. Participants include kids ranging in ages from 8 to 13-years-old, with boys and girls divisions.

Registration begins at 9am, with the contest to start at 10. Other Elks lodges in the Northwest District includes: Perry, Estherville, Ames, Council Bluffs and Sioux City. This is the first time that the Jefferson Elks Lodge is hosting the hoop shoot contest. Winners from the district competition will move onto the state contest in Grinnell. The next level of competition is regionals n Iowa City, followed by the national contest in Chicago.

The event is free and open to the public. A full list of the first and second place winners from the Jefferson Elks contest can be found below.

  • 8-9 year old boys – 1st place – Trevon Keely, Paton-Churdan School; 2nd place – Jaron Jacobs, Greene County Schools;
  • 8-9 year old girls – 1st place – Natalie Towers, Greene County Schools; 2nd place – Ella Tasler, Paton-Churdan School;
  • 10-11 year old boys – 1st place – Brynley Ruzicka, Greene County Schools; 2nd place – Broc Stream, Paton-Churdan School;
  • 10-11 year old girls – 1st place – Madeline McCarthy, Greene County Schools;
  • 12-13 year old boys – 1st place – Bryce Stalder, Greene County Schools; 2nd place – Gavein Trecker, Paton-Churdan Schools; and
  • 12-13 year old girls – 1st place – Ava Schilling, Paton Churdan Schools.
