The ACGC basketball teams had a quick turnaround following their conference doubleheader with the Woodward-Granger Hawks. The Chargers traveled to Exira Saturday to clash with the Spartans in a non-conference doubleheader. The Chargers were seemingly gassed from the previous night, as the Spartans easily cruised to convincing wins.
Exira-EHK Senior Sophia Peppers’ 29 points sparked the Spartans offense. The Spartans led 34-14 at the break and continued the barrage of points, winning 72-33. Sophomore Ellis Schultes dropped eleven points, and freshman Tatum Grubbs added 10 in the win. Sierra O’Brien came off the bench for the game and scored ten points to lead all Chargers. Jadeyn Carrick, the spark plug in the win over the Hawks, only mustered two points. Mady Smith was also held scoreless for the first time this season.
The boys team also struggled to score in their match. The Chargers had a 9-6 lead after one, but the Spartans used a 21 point second quarter to pull ahead 27-19 at the half. ACGC’s three third quarter points spelled their seventh consecutive defeat and a Spartan win, 59-37. For the first time this season, Quynton Younker came off the bench. Classmate Sam Madsen got the first start of his career in place of Younker. Caden Wardyn led the Chargers with eleven points, while fellow senior Quenton Spack scored a season high nine points in the loss.
The Chargers will conclude their road set tomorrow against the Madrid Tigers in WCAC doubleheader action. The girls game begins at 6pm with the boys game to follow. Pre-game coverage starts at 5:45pm on KKRF2 and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
