Vision 2020 Meeting 1_5Greene County’s Vision 2020 steering committee met Friday.

Moderator Zach Mannheimer said they are in negotiations with three different developers for a 16-unit apartment complex in Paton. It was also mentioned that work is being done to finalize a location for the business class restaurant and brewpub, which will then have a finalized business plan decided.

In October, the top ten projects the steering committee had decided on was estimated to cost $46 million. Greene County Development Corporation President Sid Jones talked about the overall “sticker shock” from the original cost estimate.

“Our first look at that was amenities that cost way more than we can afford. So without losing the sight of the amenities, is there a way for us to use existing locations, existing management structure like our city to still end up with the amenities at a much lower cost?”

The committee discussed different options of what those locations would be. However, Jones said they want to focus their efforts on the Greene County School District bond referendum.

“The school bond issue is number one, that is the crown jewel. As we listen to that big group of young people there was no doubt that the school issue was the crown jewel. Let’s make sure that we get that, and then I think we’ll have the opportunity for a lot of other discussion around these other amenities.”

The goal of the Vision 2020 projects is to attract more people to live and work in Greene County.
