The discussion on the awarding of bid packages for construction of the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center continued at the most recent Supervisors meeting.
The most recent wrinkle in the process is the Board had to rescind two bid awards, because the contractors were deemed unresponsive. The bid package for the roofing, flashing, and accessories was originally awarded to Northern Cedar Service for $467,600, and the package for laundry and food service was awarded to Buller Fixture Company for $329,370. Samuels Group President Sid Samuels said because the bidders were unresponsive, the County needed to award the packages to the next lowest bidder. For the roofing, that ended up being Central States Roofing for $484,700. For the laundry and food service, the second lowest bid was from Strategic Equipment LLC for $397,500.
The increased bid award amounts raised the total cost for all construction packages to $16,822,208, still well under the original engineer’s estimate. The Board approved awarding the bids to the new contractors, though Supervisor Kim Chapman still dissented. They also approved contracts to be submitted to each of the companies awarded bids for the project. The last task for bid awarding will be to receive new bids for the structural steel work, which they had to re-bid because there were none received initially.
