The second half of the high school basketball season started off on a positive note for the Panorama Panthers girls basketball team Tuesday. The Panthers resumed their season in Ogden battling the Bulldogs in a West Central Activities Conference matchup. Panorama overcame a slow first quarter start to run away with an 81-43 victory. Four Panther players scored double-figure points in the win, led by senior Devyn Kemble with 20 points. Junior Bailey Beckman chipped in 19 points, senior Morgan Johnk contributed 11 points, while Faith Powell added 10 points in first varsity game of the season.

Panorama led 9-6 after the first quarter, and Panther girls basketball coach Dan Druivenga credits Ogden’s full-court pressure for the slow start. “The press really bother us more than I thought it should’ve,” Druivenga said, “It would be different if we didn’t practice it, but we spent the last two or three days. I was disappointed we didn’t attack it as well. Otherwise, we wore them down.”

The victory is the 10th straight for Panorama since losing to Class 1A No. 1 Springville on November 25, improving the Panthers overall record to 11-1. Panorama resumes their season next Tuesday, traveling to Urbandale for a West Central Activites Conference rematch against the Des Moines Christian Lions. The Panther boys basketball team lost in the nightcap against Ogden, 83-78. Listen to tomorrow’s local sports page for full results of the game.
