Later this month, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSUA) will release the regional tournament brackets for all classes of high school basketball. The IGHSUA released this week a list of schools which are open to hosting games in their gymnasiums and the Adel-Desoto-Minburn (ADM) Community Schools is among the districts who’ve agreed to host playoff basketball games in their facility.
Reese Satre has been ADM’s Activities Director since the 2014-15 school year and says there are two different types of revenue a district gets from hosting state-sanctioned postseason athletic events. “If you run a concession stand, that (money) would go into whatever account your concession revenue goes to. “Satre said, “Whether that be general athletics, general activities, or a booster club.”
Satre adds the state also gives the district a percentage of the ticket sales but isn’t sure the exact amount. He says the money gained from ADM’s concessions goes into their general concessions account, while the revenue obtained through ticket sales of postseason events goes into ADM’s general fund due to the rental of the facility. Satre said outside of their own postseason events, ADM’s hosted one regional final playoff game since he’s been Activities Director; a Class 2A event between Panorama and Des Moines Christian in 2015. ADM will know if they are hosting any postseason basketball games in Adel sometime later this month.
