High School basketball competition won’t resume tonight for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers basketball teams as their 2018 opener isn’t until this Friday. The extra practice days gives the squads a chance to readjust back into the school routine as well as provides them a few more days to improve on areas of weakness. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with members of the ADM girls basketball team about ways they can better themselves in the coming weeks.
Multiple players pointed to the number of turnovers as a concern from the first half. ADM currently leads the Raccoon River Conference with 196 turnovers in 10 contests. Junior Grace McCartney says ADM girls basketball coach Rick Dillinger has explained to them the impact turnovers have in the game. “He said something about how (teams) get at least a point out of each turnover, so it’s like (several) points they are beating us by.”
Junior Kristen Baier adds the biggest problem with the team right now is them beating themselves. “Sometimes we make silly mistakes and passes, and it costs us those points, ” Baier said, “We are playing great otherwise, but we just have to tone those down, and I think we’ll be able to come out ahead and score a lot in our next few games.”
Finally, junior Emma Jacobsen says the goal in the second half is for the team to commit 10 or fewer turnovers per game. The ADM girls basketball team resumes their season this Friday, hosting the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays (3-5 overall) in Raccoon River Conference action.
