Several Greene County children and families received holiday cheer last week.
New Opportunities and Adopt-a-Family of Greene County teamed up to provide holiday food baskets for area families in need. Coordinator Sherry Graven says this year they helped 165 families. Greene County High School students also helped box up the food items on Friday, while volunteers helped to distribute them on Saturday at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. Graven talks about her favorite part of the event.
“My favorite part is seeing how generous the community is. We rely on donations only. When those donations start coming in and we see how really generous the community is, it’s just wonderful, it just makes you feel really good. And helping the kids, make sure that they have food, is my main goal.”
New Opportunities continued their efforts to support the Toys for Tots program. Last week, over 350 items were distributed to 350 Greene County children.
