Greene County School Board 12_20The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

Under old business, the Board approved a $670,050 bid with Brockway Mechanical and Roofing in Des Moines to replace the roof on the elementary school building. Funds for the project would be from physical plant and equipment levy (PPEL) and  Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) funds. The Board also approved eight voluntary early retirement applications for $198,442 to be paid from management funds. Additionally, the Board reviewed the elementary addition project, with final work to be completed over winter break.

Under new business, the Board approved $79,987 bid from AAA Budget Environment Incorporated to remove asbestos from the Grand Junction building, paying an annual membership due of $750 to join the Rural School Advocates of Iowa organization, reappointing Superintendent Tim Christensen to serve on the Bell Tower Community Foundation and board policies 605.4-605.7. Additionally, the Board approved administrative costs of $15,000 and $4,900 to Grandwood and Woodward Academy respectively from general education funds to general special education funds. The Board also approved $417,385 request for at-risk and dropout prevention programs, a fundraising request for the high school vocal department to use Snap Raise for fundraising for students to pay for their end-of-the-year trip.

Under superintendent’s report, Christensen noted that the district sold $1,600 of items from the Grand Junction building at a public sale and that the high school gym will be painted during winter break.
