With the possibility of some adverse weather conditions today, it’s a good time to be reminded of safe winter driving tips.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams describes some ways to keep yourself safe on the roads this winter season.
“Just remember to drive slow enough that you can maintain control of your vehicle. If your vehicle does start to slide just let off of the gas, don’t hit your brakes. Turn into the slide, very slowly turn into the slide, if you start to (slide). Just the biggest point is just drive where you feel safe.”
Williams points out another problem area in winter time are bridges icing over faster than on the normal roadway.
“The bridges ice up faster just because there is airflow underneath of them. Especially the overpass here in Jefferson seems to ice over pretty quick. We’ve just got to make sure that you’ve got enough speed to make it up the hill, and if you start to spin out don’t panic, just let off the gas. Once the car comes to a stop, then apply the brakes and slowly steer away from whatever you might be heading towards.”
Williams hopes that by keeping these safe driving tips in mind, everyone will stay safe this winter.
