The Jefferson Police Department recently released their statistics from the latest special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP).
Captain Heath Enns says from November 19th through the 26th, officers issued 14 citations and 110 warnings. The most citations were issued for speeding with five, while the most warnings were issued for vehicle equipment violations with 29, along with 26 warnings for speeding. Other activities included: four K-9 searches, three accidents were investigated, two arrest warrants were served and an officer assisted a motorist during that same time period.
Chief Mark Clouse says every year that the department participates in the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s sTEP Wave, they receive funding from the state to be used on equipment purchases.
“They give us a predetermined grant amount, it’s usually in the $4,200 to $4,500 range. They have an equipment list of equipment that qualifies for sTEP purchases. That would be: radar units for vehicles, in-car camera systems, PBTs or Preliminary Breath Testing equipment and items such as that.”
