The ACGC wrestling team hit the mats at Nodaway Valley Saturday for the Coach Riley Invitational. The Chargers were coming off a 2-1 dual record at last Thursday’s quadrangular at East Union High School. Blaine Beeler and Easton Benson kept their winning ways going, each claiming titles in their respective weight classes.
Beeler (5-0, 120) is already putting together a state qualifying campaign. The junior advanced straight to the semifinals on a quarterfinal bye. Beeler then defeated ASHTW’s Joel Sampson on a 4-0 decision to advance to the final, where he defeated Clarke’s Carter Wilken by fall (3:52). Easton Benson (5-1, 126) began his day with a quarterfinal victory by fall (1:18) over Clarinda’s Jesse Espinosa. Benson then took out Tyler Haynes of Van Meter/Earlham in the semis by a 4-2 decision. Benson won the tournament with a victory by fall (3:51) over Clarke’s Parker Hardy. Beeler and Benson recorded 42 of the team’s 80 team points.
Seth Danker, Zachary Fees, and Ben Kingery all finished third in their weight classes. Danker (5-1, 106) defeated Clarinda’s Tyler Halloran on an 11-7 decision. Fees (4-2, 132) claimed third with a victory by fall (2:22) over Clarinda’s Gage Reece. Kingery (3-3, 195) took out Jaden Loe of Bedford/Lenox with a sudden victory. The trio grabbed 34 points with the finishes.
Gunner Larsen (3-2, 113) placed fourth for the Chargers to add four team points. The Chargers finished in fourth place with 80 points. Van Meter/Earlham easily claimed the team title, with 184 points 68 points more than second place Bedford/Lenox.
