Winter is nearly here, and anyone who’s been around for an Iowa winter knows that typically means a lot of snow.
With that in mind, Perry Public Works Director Jack Butler reminds citizens to refresh their memories on the City’s snow ordinance. “Every year, it seems like the first couple snows we have to get everybody back into the rhythm, and get everybody understanding how it works. So basically when it starts snowing, once we get a half-inch or more, the snow ordinance goes into effect. And when that happens, there’s no parking on the City streets.”
Butler asks that when people know snow is coming, they preemptively move their vehicles off the streets. He adds, the Perry Police Department will go out ahead of snow events and warn people about the ordinance. People who aren’t compliant will be issued a warning at first, but will eventually be fined. Additionally, if the snow accumulation is serious enough, vehicles on the streets could be towed at the owner’s expense.
When it comes time for snow removal, public works will get to utilize their new vehicles. Butler says the City approved the purchase of two new plows, and everyone’s excited to see them in action. “We did showcase them in our Lighted Christmas Parade, kind of let people see them. And we heard a lot of comments, everybody liked to see that. And we’re tickled pink! And I know the guys operating them are, because they’re a lot more user-friendly. So the operators are excited, and for the most part we are too.”
