Coach Mark Sawhill’s Greene County wrestling team went 1-1 in season opening double-dual meet action on Tuesday night in Van Meter. The combined Van Meter/Earlham team handled Greene County 56-15 in the first meet, then the Rams were 41-24 winners over Ogden in round two.
Greene County had just three winners vs. VM/E’lam in senior Cayden Gerdes at 138, junior Clint Dennhardt at 182 and junior Bryce Hoyle at 195. Gerdes collected a forfeit with Dennhardt winning by fall, and Hoyle taking a 5-4 decision.
The Rams won eight times vs. Ogden. Dennhardt, Will Hansen (145), and Garrett Tasler (113) each won by fall. Joe Anderson at 285 won an 11-3 major decision, as did Braden Gallagher, 21-10. Leo Marques (152) and Gage Michaelson (220) both won by forfeit, and Gerdes won a 4-0 decision.
Greene County opens the home portion of the schedule tomorrow night in the middle school gym in Jefferson vs. Winterset and Carroll starting at 5:30 p.m.
