A final reminder that extra law enforcement will be out this weekend as the latest Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) Wave is coming to an end.
The Thanksgiving holiday sTEP Wave focuses on making sure all occupants in a motor vehicle are wearing their seat belts. Jefferson Police Captain Heath Enns says sTEP is meant to be an educational tool to allow officers to help motorists understand why laws and regulations are in place when driving on the road. He points out that when possible, plan ahead if you are going to be driving somewhere where alcohol will be consumed.
“Contacting friends or a taxi is the best way, or having a designated driver of some sort. That should be your number one thing you should be thinking about if you’re going out and drinking and planning on maybe drinking a little too much, that would be definitely the route to go.”
The Thanksgiving sTEP Wave is from November 19th through the 26th.
