Recently, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 50 communities that won Water Fluoridation Quality Awards from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Guthrie Center was one of the communities recognized. The award highlights communities that achieved excellence in community water fluoridation by maintaining a consistent level of fluoride in drinking water through 2016.
Currently, about 91-percent of Iowans served by community water systems have access to optimally fluoridated water. Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in drinking water to a level effective for preventing tooth decay.
