Fire crews reacted quickly to contain a combine and field fire Tuesday.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says right before noon, a deputy and the Paton Fire Department responded to the fire at R Avenue and 120th Street. Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the combine caught fire, which then led to the field fire. Paton Fire Chief Jonathan Marshall says the cause is believed to be from a bearing inside the combine engine compartment that got hot and caught corn husks on fire. Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames within 30 minutes of arriving at the scene. Marshall points out that no acres were damaged in the fire.
Williams says no one was hurt in the incident and the combine was a total loss. The incident happened on Jim Doran’s property.
