Greene County Supervisors 10_30The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Supervisor Vice-Chair Dawn Rudolph mentioned that she and Regional Coordinator for Disability Services Ellen Ritter met with members from the Central Iowa Community Services region about possibly joining their region for mental health and disability services, following their notification of withdrawal from the Heart of Iowa Community Services region last week.

The Board then had a discussion on wayfinding signage with the City of Jefferson and Jefferson Matters: Main Street. Following the discussion, Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer said the City has no timeline set as far as making any signs or where they will be located. The Board felt they wanted to be included in future discussions about naming the downtown square either the “Square,” the “Bell Tower Square” or the “Courthouse Square.”

The Board then approved a letter of support to the Jefferson Police Department for a Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant to replace administrator vehicles and hiring Brand Turner from Garner as a deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s office. The Board tabled their decision on increasing the salary of Deputy Christopher Frehse, following a concern that was brought up by Sheriff Jack Williams. Williams felt that when a new deputy graduates from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, they should be paid more than what the union contract stipulates, which is $42,500 from $40,000. Williams recommended a salary of $43,300 for Frehse. Williams also thought it was unfair that a deputy gets paid less than a new secondary roads department employee makes.

The Board also appointed Dennis Morlan to the E-911 Board and approved paying about $4,375 in matching funds for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
