It’s Ballard (Huxley) and Greene County in a Class 3A District 2 week 9 football match-up tonight in Jefferson at Linduska Field. The Rams are 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the district while the Bombers are 4-4 and 4-2.
Greene County head coach Mitch Moore is a Ballard graduate and was coached by Al Christian, the current coach of the Bombers. Both men told Raccoon Valley Radio they were looking forward to the game and expected a hard-fought contest.
Coach Moore said he considers Coach Christian a mentor, and he’s trying to model the Greene County program after Ballard in many ways. Coach Christian said he’s very proud of what Coach Moore has already accomplished.
The Bombers will be the statistical favorite tonight. They overcame forfeiting a game in week two, followed by the departure of a standout running back, and have won their last three games, but an average score of 48-13.
The Rams are coming off two close losses on the road. Greene County fell at Gilbert two weeks ago 37-31 after leading by 10 points at the half, then lost in overtime in Perry last Friday night, 17-14, after trailing 14-0 with less than three minutes left in the game.
The game tonight can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
