jefferson welcomeNext week is Jefferson’s bi-annual clean up week.

Fall Clean Up Week is scheduled for October 23rd through the 26th on residents’ normal garbage day. City Administrator Mike Palmer says the City provides the service twice a year, where residents can put items other than typical garbage out for pickup. Yard waste items will be accepted without having to use stickers in the 30-gallon biodegradable paper bags. Tree trimmings and brush will also be picked up for free.

Furniture, carpet, padding, windows, lumber, construction debris, deck and fences are included in the two free hopper loads per residence. Anything beyond two hopper loads will incur a $25 per hopper load charge, which will be assessed on the landowner’s next water bill. Any appliances that contain freon will have a $40 per appliance charge, otherwise there is a $20 charge each for all other appliances. Charges will also be applied for any electronic waste that is picked up.

Palmer asks for residents to wait until the day of or night before your pickup day to put out all items.

“If people can, if they can wait until almost to the morning of their pickup to get things out, because we all know it tends to rain that time of year and people like to go through the stuff and unrival it and it gets soaked with water.”

He adds that no tires will be picked up during clean up week and he requests residents pile and tie like items together to make it easier for crews to pick it up.
