Greene County Medical Center offers mammogram screenings in their radiology department. Radiology Technologist and Lead Mammographer Heath Booth says 40-year-old women should start having an annual mammogram. She points out that by having a mammogram done, they can detect changes in the breasts and catch suspected cancer in the early stages. Booth describes what all women should be looking over for before they decide to get a mammogram.

“Right now our best fight against the disease is really a combination of having a clinical breast exam done by your doctor every year, a patient should start having that done in their 20s, and then doing self breast exams. Keep an eye on the ‘girls’ and just make sure nothing changes over time. Look for skin changes or any moles, that sort of thing.”

In an effort to provide additional services, the imaging department will be holding evening mammogram appointments tomorrow from 5:30 to 7pm at the medical center. To schedule an appointment, contact the imaging department at 386-0443.
