The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, the Board discussed naming the downtown square and signage with Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer. The Board told Palmer that they wanted the square to be named “courthouse square” because they felt Greene County citizens have owned the building for 100 years and they thought that was significant to put on wayfinding signage. The proposal given to the City by Jefferson Matters: Main Street, noted “courthouse square” once on the signage, which the Board felt wasn’t enough. Palmer suggested that he and Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney could discuss the issue at a future meeting.
The Board then approved a resolution to withdraw from the Heart of Iowa Region for mental health and disabilities services. The resolution was due to lack of communication, not getting answers to questions and services not benefitting county residents as much as it could. The Board will look at neighboring regions to join at a future meeting.
The Board also approved the County Treasurer’s investment report for September of $7,743,905 and issuing 269 driver’s licenses last month. Satisfaction of forgivable mortgage for the down payment assistance program was also approved as presented.
Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss told the Board progress on the Ralston Bridge is slow, due to complaints filed by a resident with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration claiming unsafe work environments with the contractor.
