Assignments for Iowa high school cross-country State Qualifying Meets came out last week from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association. Greene County is assigned to the Class 2A coed meet in Lake City on the golf course there hosted by South Central Calhoun.
Greene County Coach Jeff Lamoureux commented about the assignment. “Really, we couldn’t have asked for a better site. That’s what we were hoping for when the sites were released, that we’d go to Lake City. It’s close, so there’s the travel time, and it’s a place we ran it on the third of this month, so our girls and boys are familiar with the site and the course, so the familiarity is going to help us. And, we’re pretty fortunate in terms of the teams we’re running against. There are three ranked girls and three ranked boys teams, but the highest ranked girls team is ninth and the highest ranked boys team is seventh. So, in a nutshell, it could’ve been a lot worse!”
State Qualifying in all four classes throughout the state is set for this Thursday, Oct. 19. The girls run in Lake City at 4 p.m. with the boys to follow.
