Build a Better World

The next installment of the Home Maintenance 101 series is coming this Monday at the Perry Public Library.

The program is a collaboration of the library, Dallas County ISU Extension and Outreach, and Habitat for Humanity. Starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Habitat and Extension representatives will be teaching attendees about air sealing and insulation. Library Director Mary Murphy says the point of the program is to teach homeowners easy, do-it-yourself fixes to help them save money and be more self-sufficient.

This particular class is designed to teach people about proper sealing and insulation before the cooler weather takes over. To aid the educators a bit, Murphy says attendees should bring pictures of what they’re dealing with. “If you have a problem in your house with air sealing or insulation, bring a picture. And they will look at the pictures and help you (with) what you can do to solve this problem, if you have an air sealing problem or an insulation problem.”

There is no cost to attend the program, though preregistration is encouraged. Contact the library at 515-465-3569 for more information or to register. There will be one final Home Maintenance 101 program in October.
