After Stuart’s final Scoop the Loop, the classic cars migrated northwest to Guthrie Center for the third annual Guthrie’s Rockin’ Retro Car Show last Saturday. Around 100 cars were registered at this year’s event. The show ran in conjunction with the the unveiling of the Western Skies Byway art piece in downtown Guthrie Center.
The show featured all kinds of classic cars, but also more modern makes. The periodic rain didn’t damper the spirits of those gathered, as the streets were filled with spectators and car enthusiasts. Prizes were given in several categories, but there were two distinct winners of the overall classifications. John Mormon of Perry won the 1948 or Older category with his 1928 Buick. Randy Cashett of Des Moines won the 1949 or Later category with his 1966 Baracuda. The show also auctioned off a “Rat Wagon” and all proceeds benefited the Wounded Warrior Project.
