Ft. Dodge St Edmond defeated Perry in straight sets Thursday night in the season opener for both teams by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-17.  Perry was competitive in all 3 games and showed spurts of effective offense against the taller Gael squad but slow starts in each game proved to be too much to overcome.

Perry was short-handed on the night playing without their most dangerous outside hitter, Johanna Diw. The talented senior sprained an ankle in practice Monday and could miss a couple of weeks of action.   Isabel Saemisch, Gabbie West and Sidney Vancil led a 15 kill night with 3 kills each.  Vancil led the passing attack with 9 assists.

The night marked the debut of varsity head coach John Fulton.  The first year Perry coach was happy with the way his team battled without their big hitter.

“I was impressed with our play tonight.  We served aggressively and really improved there.  Sidney did a great job all the way around for us.  We started off slow in all three sets which hurt us so we need to a better job at that.”

Perry will continue opening week action this Saturday at the Bondurant Farrar Tourney.
