The Perry swim team defeated Algona 85-82 in the season opener for both squads at the McCreary Center Thursday night. Perry was solid in both the 200 freestyle and IM placing one-two in both events. Breanna Penenger and Avery Miner placed first and second in the freestyle while Dannah Karolus and Anna Ridnour did the same in the IR. The sophomore Karolus also added a key win the 100 freestyle. Sarah Vaughn showed her strength in the butterfly capturing top honors. Vivian Gonzalez made a triumphant return to the lineup after missing all of last year with a knee injury by taking first place in the 100 yard backstroke.
