With a new school year starting today, some students will see a change of scenery.
Greene County Schools Superintendent Tim Christensen says the new addition on the elementary school continues to lag behind, forcing him to disperse kids into a different building.
“The addition that is being built is for pre-k classrooms. And pre-k is scheduled to start September 7th, which it will still start September 7th, but we’ve made arrangements to start at St. Joseph’s Parish Center is where that will begin because that area will not be ready.”
He adds that the main entrance is also not ready.
“As we start the school year at the elementary, we’ll use the east entrance is what we’ll use for people coming into the building and leaving the building. The main entrance will not be ready to go. So it’ll be the east entrance.”
Christensen says the $1.7 million project is being delayed by the bricklayers not progressing as fast as they needed to be to have the project finished by the time the school year started. The School Board approved the project in February.
