The annual Perry Latino Festival is returning this Saturday for a day of entertainment and culture.

The Festival has been held yearly for two decades, and over the last ten years it’s been under the guidance of Hispanics United for Perry. Organizer Rosa Gonzalez believes the festival is a great way to keep the youth of Perry engaged in their culture. “It is important for us to keep our heritage alive. And to share and to teach our next generation some of our traditions and some of the things that we did when we were younger, and things that we grew up with, and part of our culture.”

The festivities will commence at 10 a.m. Saturday with the parade down Willis Avenue. Once the parade concludes, there will be a welcoming ceremony before attendees are unleashed onto 2nd Street. Gonzalez says the day will be filled with music, dances, food, and vendors, as well as the Queen of the Festival presentation. The Festival will wrap up at 8 p.m.

Gonzalez encourages the whole community to attend, even if you’re not hispanic. “This is not exclusive for Latinos. That is a question that probably people ask themselves, ‘Is this for me?’ This is for everybody. This is for anybody who would like to have a good time, who would like to enjoy something that may be different from what they are used to. And just to experience what it is to be from a different culture.”
