DSCN6818The Greene County Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, County Environmental Health Administrator Chuck Wenthold gave an update on the MidAmerican Wind Turbine project. He said the sections to erect the wind turbines have started to be delivered to the sites. The project remains on schedule and there will need to be road closures on some of the paved county roads for crane crossings to take place.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported that lightning struck the law enforcement center’s tower, knocking some systems offline. They are aware of what systems are down and are currently trying to repair those issues.

The Board then approved to transfer funds from general basic to secondary roads for $50,000, conservation reserve for $30,000, recreation enhancement and protection for $15,000 and Raccoon River Valley Trail maintenance for $7,500. They also reappointed Sandra Miner to the Region XII Council of Governments Regional Housing Authority Board until September 30, 2018.

Next, the Board heard about an upcoming tax increment financing class with members from Greene County Development Corporation. Director Ken Paxton, President Sid Jones and Norm Fandel invited the Board to an informational session to learn about how TIF works and they would like to possibly utilize that funding mechanism for some of the Vision 2020 projects.

Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave several updates. He said the Iowa Department of Transportation has applied about $80,000 worth of calcium chloride to the unofficial, gravel detour routes around Grand Junction for the Highway 30 bridge project. He added that secondary roads is getting reimbursed by the DOT for applying additional whiterock on the gravel detour routes. His office will also receive a $58,000 payment for damage done to a 2002 dump truck that was involved in a fatal accident on July 20th. Finally, Weiss anticipates work to start by the end of this month to replace the E-57 bridge.
