The first Greene County Family Football Night was deemed a success by new head football coach Mitch Moore. The event was held on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson in cooperation with Greene County Farm Bureau and other organizations. Games and activities for youngsters were featured, along with a meal, and plenty of football. Eighth graders on down played “Battle Ball” when the high school players took a break from scrimmaging.

Coach Moore was asked if the Rams got out of the scrimmage what they had hoped for. “There’s no question we got out of it what we wanted. Our defense really played well at times tonight and as camp kept going and day after day after day went on, we as a staff kept echoing ‘Maybe our defense is a little better than we think,’ and they showed it tonight. Offensively, we really looked sharp in the red zone. We scored quite a bit in the red zone there at the end of the scrimmage. We do need to do a better job of getting the ball snapped and do a better job of handling adversity offensively. We’ve got to refine some things this week.”

The coach talked about getting to open the season on Aug. 25 at Linduska Field. “For six months we’ve been playing each other. It’s going to be pretty fun to play somebody else on Friday night.” The Rams host the Knights of Kuemper Catholic in a non-district game at 7:30 p.m. with coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com beginning at 6:30 p.m.

A freshman game will start things off Friday at 4:45 p.m.
