Dallas Co Supervisors

At this week’s Dallas County Supervisors meeting, they received another update on the new law enforcement center’s progress.

The focus of the discussion was primarily on the plans for the sewer systems. Jerry Purdy of Design Alliance said if the County wanted to expand the Ortonville Lagoon to accommodate the facility, they need to know very soon because the expansion would take an estimated 26 months to complete. The construction of the center will take around 18 months, and obviously the County will need a working sewer system in place before it can open. However, the Supervisors don’t want to spend the approximately $600,000 to expand the lagoon if they can hook into the City of Adel’s sewer in the future.

The City’s plan is to provide sewer to the area some time in the near future, but they’re unsure when that will be. They do have a meeting scheduled for next week to discuss the sewer options, but it won’t happen before the next Supervisors meeting. To complicate things further, MidAmerican Energy is building a new facility in the area on the same construction schedule as the law enforcement center, and are asking to be a part of either the lagoon or sewer system as well.

The Board hopes to have more clarification in the coming weeks, though they’re not likely to reach a decision on lagoon or sewer until the final meeting of August.
